Cut and Sew Your Own Garment
Friday 25th November, 2nd, 9th and 16th December 2022
10.00am to 1.00pm
This course covers the use of a commercial pattern, laying out the fabric, choosing the correct lines for your size, cutting out, constructing and making the Toile / Garment.
- During the course you will learn to identify pattern pieces
- how to read and follow the pattern instructions
- Lay and pin your pattern correctly onto the fabric, following the layout plan
- cut the fabric
- create a Toile (prototype garment)
- Adjust the pattern to fit
- Use your machine to sew the Toile, using learnt basic sewing techniques
Who is this course for: For anyone who wants to improve their sewing skills and create their own garment
Previous Knowledge or Experience: some prior knowledge of the basic sewing techniques
How will I learn: Discussion, demonstration, & observation of sewing techniques
How will I be assessed: Observation & project work
What shall I bring: Sewing machine with bobbins, feet and spare needles, sewing pattern suitable for your level of experience
old sheet or calico for the toile, fabric scissors, paper scissors, tape measure, pins, paper/pad. Thread
Fabric for your garment will be discussed at the first lesson
Prior to your lesson the tutor will arrange a short phone call, at a mutually convenient time, to discuss your project and level of experience
