Expressive Watercolours for Improvers

Saturday 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd March 2025

1.30pm to 3.30pm

To introduce the exciting world of traditional and experimental expressive watercolour through additional traditional and experimental techniques, building on prior watercolour painting and mixed media knowledge, skills and understanding, to create finished watercolour and mixed media artwork. This course builds on and extends from the funded expressive watercolours beginners course. The course also continues to focus on art and wellbeing.

Learning Goals:

  • Identify, discuss and explore how traditional and experimental watercolour artists produce their artwork and how this can inform, support and extend your own creative practice
  • Identify, extend and apply 2D visual language skills, knowledge and understanding of both traditional and experimental watercolour and mixed media artwork, building on prior learning, to produce finished and mounted artwork
  • Identify, extend and apply additional traditional and experimental watercolour techniques, media, tools and equipment to create your own finished and mounted artwork
  • Produce final finished and mounted artwork and practically review your own creative practice
  • Review the impact that the course has had on your own wellbeing

About the course: This course is designed to extend on prior learning regarding both traditional and experimental watercolours; building on previous understanding, skills and knowledge of traditional and experimental watercolours to create more competent and skilful outcomes

Who is this course for: Anyone can join this course who has prior knowledge and skills of both traditional and experimental watercolour and mixed media techniques

How will I learn: Tutor demonstrations, questions and answers, visual resources/worksheets/hand-outs, practical activities. Option for learner to keep a written and visual working journal/sketchbook

How will I be assessed: Formative assessment through Q and A/tutor notes, learner note taking, practical activities/samples/artwork and keeping an on-going working journal/sketchbook

What shall I bring: Apron or wear old clothing. Optional A5 or A4 sketchbook/work journal. £10 Materials fee. All other materials, tools, equipment and other resources will be provided by the tutor

Next steps: Progression onto other learning in libraries arts and/or crafts courses and workshops or independent study

If a learner decides to withdraw from a course before a course begins, the following charges should be made:

              5 working days or more before course starts a full refund will be issued
