
Family History for Beginners

Monday 20th, 27th February, 6th, 13th and 20th March 2023
10.00am to 12.00pm
To provide an introduction and basic understanding of how to learn more about your family history.
- Describe the underlying principles of how to explore your family’s history
- Explore basic research skills using at least 2 primary and 2 secondary sources
- Locate some of the most used materials and online sites for family history
- Compare 2 different types of online databases (commercial and non-commercial) and describe the differences
- Create one basic family tree
This course is ideal for those who wish to begin the fascinating journey of discovering who their ancestors were, where they came from and what they did.
Who is this course for: This course is aimed at the absolute beginner and therefore no previous knowledge of family history research is required or expected
Previous knowledge or experience: It is essential to have some basic computer skills and experience of using the internet
How will I learn: through interactive discussions and practical exercises
How will I be assessed: Self-assessment, exercises in using the websites and Tutor/group discussions
What shall I bring: Note book and pen/pencil
