Introduction to First Aid
Gosport Discovery Centre
Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th June 2025
9.30am to 2.30pm
This is a course aimed for candidates with little or no first aid knowledge or skills in first aid. It will give the learner the ability to respond to everyday first aid emergencies, within the home and the community, calmly and confidently. This is an interactive, fun and practical course.
Learning Goals:
- Describe how to safely and confidently respond to an emergency
- Demonstrate placing an unconscious casualty into the Recovery Position
- Demonstrate CPR on a non-breathing casualty/manikin
- Describe and demonstrate the effectiveness of using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) on a nonbreathing casualty
- Describe and treat a casualty with ailments such as a burn, or basic bleeding, as well as being able to deal with a choking casualty
About the course: Whether you are refreshing your first aid knowledge or looking to gain new skills, this course is aimed to build your self-confidence to assist in a medical emergency with adults
Who is this course for: This course is designed to give the candidate skills to be able to assist someone in an emergency, or someone who has become ill or injured at home. It is created to be a sociable and engaging programme which is friendly and welcoming to all
Previous knowledge or experience: No previous knowledge is required – come and learn to great skills, meet new people and have a lot of fun along the way
How will I learn: Demonstration, group work, practical activities
How will I be assessed: Tutor demonstration/support/feedback and peer support with your team
Next steps: There is progression onto accredited courses in Emergency First at Work and Paediatric First Aid
Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have.
