Memory Friendly Art Class
Monday 31st October, 7th, 14th and 21st November 2022
10.00am to 12.00pm
Length of Course: 12 hours
Aims of The Course: To develop your skills and confidence in using drawing to improve your sense of wellbeing
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Create at least three artworks
- Create an expressive drawing journal
- Undertake at least 5 mindful art activities
- Identify how mindful art activities can help you feel calmer and more relaxed
- Identify how you can continue using mindful art activities to best meet your wellbeing need
We will be taking a short break during the session so feel free to bring a drink or some money so you can pop down to the café.
Please feel free to bring along a friend/family member to support you. They will be able to join in the class too and will need to be booked on the course too.
About the Course: This art class is for people who find remembering things difficult. You might have been diagnosed with dementia or mixed dementia, or you might struggle with your memory sometimes. During the course, we will be working on different activities to help you learn new art skills or improve skills you already have.
Who is this course for: People who want to use art skills to improve their wellbeing but find remembering things difficult.
Previous Knowledge or Experience: people who are new to art/have done art before and want to improve their skills.
How will I learn: Through a range of activities during the class. There are some activities that we try in class that you might want to do at home in between classes but this is not compulsory.
How will I be assessed: There is no formal assessment in this class although we will helping you to get the most from the course and to complete the objectives of the course.
What shall I bring: Please bring these art materials with you each week:
A range of drawing pencils i.e. HB, 2B, 3B, 5B
A range of different colour pencils
Different coloured pens (ie biros, fine liner pens or gel pens)
Cartridge paper or pad for practising art on (A4 is ideal)
Heavier (thicker) watercolour or cartridge paper for your longer pictures (A4 is ideal)
3 images to inspire your drawings. For example, they can be photos, print outs, greetings cards or from a calendar
A drawing board or something to lean on if it would help you sit more comfortably when drawing
Drink and/or snack (optional)

This course is aimed at Hampshire residents aged 19+ Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have.
