Mindful Art with Oil Pastels

To develop your skills and confidence in making mindful and creative marks with oil pastels.

  • Create at least two artworks using oil pastels
  • Create different effects using different techniques
  • Undertake 3 different preparation activities 
  • Identify how mindful art activities can help you feel calmer and more relaxed
  • Undertake at least 4 mindful art activities

About the course: Approachable session and activities to help you use different mindful art activities and build your skills and confidence in using oil pastels. We will be using photographs and images to inspire our art

Who is this course for: Individuals looking to develop their creative skills to improve their wellbeing

Previous knowledge or experience:  This course is ideal for beginners to oil pastels or those who are new to art or wanting to build their skills and confidence.  Some understanding of drawing techniques is helpful but not essential

How will I learn: Through a range of activities

How will I be assessed: Through completing activities and through class discussion

What shall I bring: A pencil, a range of oil pastels (please note chalk pastels are not suitable for this course), plenty of cartridge paper (preferably A4) for practicing and activities in class, heavier watercolour paper or pastel paper (A4) for your main pictures, old flannel or cloth for wiping your hands (or wet wipes if you prefer), cotton buds, something to scrape with i.e. cocktail sticks, old store card, 2 images to inspire your artworks, if you wish, a drawing board or something to lean up on (up to A3), an apron or wear clothes that you don’t mind getting pastels on (oil pastels can be difficult to remove)
