Enter the world of tactile three-dimensional art and a walk-through experience
focusing on understanding different types of sculpture, understanding the materials and techniques used and learning the language around sculpture as an art form. This course will enable you to relax and improve your mental health and wellbeing

  • Apply the language used in sculpture from materials to technical processes to application
  • Create your sculpture charts and records to use correct measurements for creating scaled models (Maquette)
  • List some key fundamentals to creating a sculpture from beginning to end
  • Identify the value of using mathematics in all elements of your work from compositional structures, geometry in defining shapes and ratios in understanding life size to actual model proportions
  • Describe the impact of using this medium on your mental health and wellbeing

About the course: From the genius of Sculptors such as Michelangelo, Donatello, Bernini to Rodin and Henri Moore, sculpture has been a major art form since we first picked up clay and moulded it in ancient hands. The tactile nature of having the piece of earth in your hands and creating shapes and form is like no other art experience. In this course we will look at creating a small maquette using water based clay that can be worked as a first step in to this world. Using casts to copy from, I will show you the essential tools and measurements needed to make an accurate copy, moulding the clay with our hands and fingers and then specific tools to create your own version of the work. You will use turntables to enable sculpting from all around the piece and get the true feeling of working in a 3D environment. This course is provided by a commissioned Sculptor and Painter
