Watercolour for Beginners

Enjoy discovering how to paint in watercolours, and how to use the medium to achieve different effects.

Learn the basics and discover how to paint simple scenes using tried and tested techniques, taught through demonstration and hands on painting.

  • Select appropriate brushes and paper to work with watercolour and identify and describe the techniques you will use
  • Demonstrate use of tone and colour to create atmosphere, depth, light and perspective
  • Describe and demonstrate different techniques for masking and preserving the white of the paper to create highlights, pattern and texture
  • Demonstrate how to plan and paint an image from a reference and create 4 simple painted scenes of landscapes, still life and flowers

Who is this course for: People who would love to learn how to use watercolour to paint pictures step-by-step in a fun, supportive and encouraging environment

Previous knowledge or experience: No experience necessary, but you’re welcome if you have a bit of experience too and would like to consolidate your knowledge

How will I learn: You will learn from watching the tutor demonstrate techniques then having a go yourself

How will I be assessed: You will receive encouragement and constructive feedback throughout the sessions
