Workouts don’t have to be a chore! Zumba is a fun, social dance party – with exercise being the biggest perk. Since it takes place in a group setting, Zumba is by far one of the best ways to get your friends in on your “exercise routine.”

Learning Goals:

  • Identify how your fitness routine can help prevent illness and promote physical and emotional health
  • Improve different elements of your fitness (cardio-vascular fitness, muscular strength, balance, flexibility)
  • Demonstrate an improved level of coordination, sense of rhythm and musicality
  • Develop your memory and muscle memory through the repetition of taught routines
  • Evaluate the impact that Zumba classes are having on your physical and mental wellbeing

Who is this course for: Zumba Gold is aimed at active older adults, people who have never tried Zumba before, those recovering from injuries/getting back to being active, and people who want a gentle workout. This invigorating Latin-inspired, dance-fitness program includes Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia, Belly Dance, Flamenco and Tango. Learners will have an hour of fun dancing on the notes of international hits. Zumba Gold will help participants to maintain functional capacity, reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, retard the progression of chronic diseases, and promote psychological wellbeing. Evidence shows there is a link between being physically active and good mental wellbeing. Regular exercise has been linked to decreasing stress, depression and anxiety.

Previous knowledge or experience: No previous knowledge or experience is required. This course is low impact (no jumps).

How will I learn: By watching and joining in.
