Drawing & Painting for Improvers

Saturday 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th March and 5th April 2025

10.00am to 12.30pm

To further build on skills developed in Drawing and Painting for Beginners. The course will culminate in learners creating their own mixed media floral inspired abstract.

Learning Goals:

  • Describe specific colours used and the emotional impact these have on the mood of your painting
  • Identify which mark making tool would be most appropriate
  • Use the colour wheel confidently to enable more sophisticated colour mixing
  • Apply colour using a broad variety of tools to create rhythm and flow in your work
  • Create an expressive and vibrant floral abstract painting
  • Demonstrate an individual approach to this genre

Who is this course for: Learners that have participated in the beginners’ course, anyone wishing to be guided into a more abstract way of painting florals, anyone wishing to explore acrylic as a medium. Rachel can support hearing impaired learners in her classes as she has basic conversational sign language skills

Previous knowledge or experience: Some basic knowledge would be of benefit but is not compulsory

How will I learn: You will be guided week by week through the process with lots of opportunity for practical exploration and discussion. Your tutor will provide practical demonstrations also

How will I be assessed: Your tutor will work with you to set individual learning goals and support you throughout. We encourage group discussion and ideas sharing

What shall I bring: Please bring an apron, a basic brush pack and a basic set of acrylic paints. Your tutor will supply everything else that you need

Next steps: Book on please and get ready for fun! This course could lead to other Learning in Libraries courses such as Atmospheric Beachscapes. Alternatively, join a local art group such as Tadley & Baughurst Art Club, Oakridge West Art Club and Westside Community Art Club

If a learner decides to withdraw from a course before a course begins, the following charges should be made:
