Makaton Level 2 Workshop

Online Course

Monday 19th, 26th February, 4th and 11th March 2024

6.30pm to 8.30pm

This short course is a follow on in the Makaton language programme for those who have completed level 1 and focusing on using Makaton in the outside world.

  • Recall signs and symbols from stages 3 and 4 of the Makaton Core Vocabulary.
  • Sign and interpret the next 120 signs/symbols accurately  
  • Combine signs and symbols to create 20 new personalised sentences and phrases for everyday communication
  • Interpret/read sign and symbol sentences and phrases accurately
  • Create a plan to continue using Makaton sign and symbols in a range of everyday situations

About the course: Makaton is a unique language programme that uses symbols, signs, and speech to teach communication or to support speech. Makaton supports the development of essential communication skills such as attention and listening, comprehension, memory, recall and organisation of language and expression and is a lifelong skill for both adults and children. The level 2 Makaton workshop includes both theory and practical based work and activities.

Who is this course for: Those who wish to improve their ability to communicate with a Makaton user (should you require a course for your professional setting or role, please contact your local Makaton Tutor)

Previous knowledge or experience: Learners must have completed Makaton level 1

How will I learn: In a group of up to 12 learners. Through demonstration and fun activities

How will I be assessed: Informal assessment by the tutor

What shall I bring: The £22.05 materials fee will provide you with the level 2 workshop manual and certificate, which include the signs and symbols that you have learned. Learners must attend a minimum of 3 sessions to be eligible for their certificate

If a learner decides to withdraw from a course before a course begins, the following charges should be made:

  • 5 working days or more before course starts a full refund will be issued  
  • No refunds will normally be made if a learner withdraws from a course less than 4 working days before the start of the course
