This is a free online course using Zoom.

Demonstrate and identify skills and techniques for altering/ drafting Dressmaking Patterns (Pattern Cutting).

This course is designed to help learners develop their pattern cutting skills through a mixture of practice, discussion, and demonstration within a supportive, friendly online classroom environment.

Each week you will practice a new skill to use for future personal projects: Adjusting a sleeve pattern to a leg-of-mutton design, Create a Peter Pan collar pattern, Altering the trouser for fit, Moving a bust dart and performing a full bust adjustment, Altering a trouser pattern for fit.

  • Describe 3 (dressmaking) pattern adjustments
  • Demonstrate the ability to alter a pattern piece and identify skills used during the demonstrations
  • Perform a minimum of 3 pattern cutting skills/ techniques during the demonstrations
  • Describe the impact of Dressmaking and Pattern Cutting on well-being

About the Course: The process of being creative can bring numerous health benefits and general feelings of wellbeing. Research shows that taking up Dressmaking can help, amongst other things depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, insomnia and raising levels of happiness. Who is this course for: those who have previously completed the Sewing for Happiness online course, a face-to-face Dressmaking with Lareen, Dressmaking you Calm course OR are confident with Dressmaking (please email the tutor at tutoring@lareenannemorris.co.uk before signing up to check).

Previous Knowledge or Experience: You must have either completed an online course with Lareen in a previous academic year, attended a face to face course with Lareen OR be confident with using a Dressmaking pattern and have previous dressmaking/ sewing knowledge.

How will I learn: Discussion, demonstration, and produce independent samples in a virtual classroom via zoom.

How will I be assessed: Before the course starts you will be sent an online form; the tutor will use the information to assess your previous experience. This will help the Tutor get to know you and to be able to provide a more tailored teaching. Each week you will be sent the resources required for the lesson; you will need access to a printer. You are required to complete further paperwork at the end of the course as part of the assessment and course requirements.

During the length of the course, you will have contact with the Tutor via a Facebook group or email for any questions/concerns. Each week you will produce small scale patterns and notes, for future reference. Please note, you may need to use your personal time to complete the demonstrations because of the time constraints.

What shall I bring: Paper (full patterns are made using pattern paper), paper scissors, printed handouts (emailed each week to print at home), pins, tape measure, ruler (pattern master is idea), pens and pencils, highlighter pens, celotape/ masking tape/ glue.

This course is aimed at Hampshire residents aged 19+ Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have.
