Seated Exercise for Health and Wellbeing

1.30pm to 2.30pm
Perform seated dance and strength and mobility exercises to stay stronger for longer.
Learning Goals:
- Demonstrate coordination, flexibility and mobility by performing at least 3 Dance, Pilates and Yoga inspired routines on a chair
- Demonstrate core strength by performing seated sit ups, leg raises and side bends
- Demonstrate upper body strength with hand weights and the resistance band by performing bicep curls, lateral pull downs, tricep extensions, the upright seated row and chest press
- Demonstrate alignment and balance using the chair as an aid and describe the impact of exercise on physical and mental wellbeing
About the course: This is an inclusive course for any age with the intention of improving strength, mobility, flexibility, coordination and balance. The power of chair exercise cannot be underestimated. The sessions will explore structured routines to inspiring music from popular and classical genres and the musicals and charts. Sessions will follow safe practice and include a warmup, cool down, stretch and regular water breaks
Who is this course for: This course is for anyone wanting to improve their physical and mental wellbeing, strength and mobility. Sessions will be personalised and tailored for you after initial assessment
Previous knowledge or experience: No previous experience is necessary
How will I learn: Through verbal instruction and demonstration
How will I be assessed: By tutor observation against the course goals. There is no formal assessment
What shall I bring: Wear comfortable clothing. Have a drink of water to hand to stay hydrated. Two light hand weights or 2 small 500ml water bottles to hold as weight substitutes

Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have.
