Summer term 2025: Tuesdays 3rd and 10th June 2025 - 9.30am to 12.30pm - Virtual via MS Teams

Understanding Children's Behaviour and Supporting their Social and Emotional Development is an updated, two-part course supporting you to analyse and identify communicative function and underlying factors of a child’s behaviour. There will be a focus on the adult role in responding to and shaping behaviour, through proactive strategies, including creating behaviour plans.

Delegates must attend both sessions.

Sessions can be purchased separately, for in-house Understanding Behaviour training

Session one - Understanding Children's Behaviour: Supporting their Social and Emotional Development

This session looks at early brain development and the importance of co regulation to support self-regulation. It will begin to explore underlying factors that may be impacting on the child, and what the behaviour may be communicating.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of early brain development and the impact on behaviour
  • Understand the importance of co regulation
  • Understand the impact of self-esteem and resilience on behaviour
  • Understand the importance of the role of the adult
  • Understand that behaviour is communicating a need

Session two - Understanding Children's Behaviour: Supporting their Social and Emotional Development

This session focuses on how to respond to and support a child’s social emotional and mental health using a range of tools to help identify the communicative function of the behaviour . It will highlight proactive strategies and teaching of new skills through a behaviour plan as part of a positive approach to develop personal social and emotional development.

By the end of this training, you will

  • Be aware of some tools to analyse children’s behaviour
  • Identify the communicative function of behaviour
  • Understand and be able to apply proactive strategies in your setting
  • Know when and how to respond/react to a child's behaviour
  • Be able to create a behaviour plan to support a child's personal, social, and emotional development
  • Be able to create a behaviour plan to support a child's personal, social, and emotional development
