To introduce a calming, mindful activity that helps learners slow down, tap into their creativity, and find relaxation through the gentle, repetitive process of making
Learning Goals:
- Demonstrate how to use a crochet hook and yarn to perform at least 2 basic stitches including slip stitch and chain stich
- Produce and combine 4 basic UK crochet stitches and understand where they are used
- Read and follow beginner-friendly crochet patterns and charts
- Select suitable yarns, hooks and materials
- Use crochet as a tool for personal wellbeing
About the course: Crochet has the power to enhance mental wellbeing by nurturing creativity, improving focus, and offering a rewarding sense of accomplishment, while the challenge of learning new stitches and the rhythmic flow of each row create a calming, absorbing experience that supports relaxation and a sense of ease.
Who is this course for: This course, funded by UK government, is for Hampshire residents aged 19+ looking to improve their mental, emotional or physical health through creative expression
Previous knowledge or experience: This course is designed for complete beginners or those wishing to brush up on their basic crocheting skills.
How will I learn: By demonstration and practicing at your own pace.
How will I be assessed: Tutor observation and individual work
What shall I bring: A 4mm Crotchet Hook, Light coloured double knit yarn e.g. King Cole Dollymix
Next steps: Further workshops or courses on crochet or macrame. Drop in sessions at your local library
This course is aimed at Hampshire residents aged 19+ Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have.
