Drawing a Still Life Composition
Yateley Library
Saturday 11th October 2025
10.00am to 1.00pm
Building on the techniques taught in Drawing for Beginners, learners will work on their
skills and accuracy in using line and tone with pencil by drawing objects from life. You will discuss the rules of composition and make your own arrangement of objects to draw, to create a balanced and visually compelling drawing.
Learning Goals:
- Use targeted drawing exercises to warm up, relax and develop your personal style
- Using pencils, practice using line and tone and apply techniques learnt to render objects accurately and with a three-dimensional appearance
- Demonstrate how drawing objects from life rather than using a photograph can sharpen your observational skills
- Learn and demonstrate principles of good composition in your drawing
About the course: This engaging workshop invites adult learners to explore drawing as both a skill-building and relaxing creative practice. Begin with targeted warm-up exercises designed to loosen your hand, calm your mind, and help you discover your unique style. Using pencils, you'll learn to apply line and tone to render objects with accuracy and three-dimensionality. Through drawing from life, you'll sharpen your observational skills and deepen your connection to your
subject
