Tadley Library

Saturday 25th April, 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd May 2026

10.00am to 12.30pm

Join local artist and educator Rachel Davis for a gentle introduction into drawing and painting. We will turn drawing on its head as we learn to look together. The course will guide you through colour mixing and culminate in you painting your very own acrylic wildflower meadow.

Learning Goals:

  • Demonstrate at least 2 observational drawing techniques
  • List colours in a colour wheel and apply
  • Mix at least 3 vibrant, fresh secondary colours and apply to create texture, depth and atmosphere
  • Self-evaluate how engaging with art can improve your wellbeing
  • Describe the benefit of using your personal sketchbook as a creative space to explore ideas, support mindfulness, and reflect on your artistic journey

Who is this course for: This course, funded by UK government is for Hampshire residents aged 19+ and is ideal for beginners, those wishing to explore acrylic as a medium or landscapes enthusiasts.

Previous knowledge or experience: No previous experience necessary.

How will I learn: We will be working at a steady pace with lots of room for exploration and extra exercises can be given for those wishing to continue at home. We will learn through discussion, demonstration and practical exploration.

How will I be assessed: We will review our progress weekly and feedback is available. Peer to peer feedback is also welcomed.

What shall I bring: From week 2 onward please bring an apron or wear old clothes. Please bring a complete set of acrylic paints, a canvas board, pack of mixed media paper and a basic brush pack. All other items will be supplied by the tutor. If you would prefer, please bring £5 cash payable to the tutor on the first session to include the canvas board and mixed media paper. Please note you will still need to bring a complete set of acrylic paints and a basic brush pack
