This course aims to support learners’ wellbeing, confidence and self expression through the mindful practice of drawing. It provides a calm and inclusive space where learners can develop creative skills, build resilience and enhance their overall sense of wellbeing; encouraging reflection and enjoyment in this creative process.

Learning Goals:

  • Develop confidence and self-expression through exploring drawing techniques, perspective and composition in a supportive and creative environment.
  • Use at least three drawing techniques to create artwork, developing focus, creativity and a sense of personal achievement.
  • Produce a final drawing that demonstrates the use of line, tone and perspective to create depth and form, reflecting your creative development.
  • Identify and discuss how drawing can support relaxation, improve mood, reduce stress and enhance overall well-being.
  • Reflect on how regular participation in drawing activities can build confidence, encourage mindfulness and support long-term health and well-being.

About the course: This course will introduce a range of drawing techniques to help you build your skills and confidence. Working in a small, friendly group, you’ll create your own, tutor led, unique artwork as the weeks go on. The sessions offer a relaxed space to enjoy being creative, connect with others, and support your wellbeing through art.

Who is this course for: This course, funded by UK government, is for Hampshire residents aged 19+ who would like to develop their drawing skills while improving confidence, encouraging creativity and supporting their mental health and well-being through a relaxing and enjoyable activity.

Please note: Eligibility criteria applies and will be checked upon enrolment.

Course purpose: To improve health and wellbeing

Previous knowledge or experience: No previous knowledge is required. No previous skills are required except lots of enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and a desire to have fun.

How will I learn: Each week you will be guided through different drawing techniques. As the weeks progress, you will learn to combine the skills together to create artwork which will look original, realistic and amazing.

How will I be assessed: Through personal evaluation, observation and questioning.

What shall I bring: Listed are ideas of what you’ll need, please also feel free to bring any refreshments you would like:

  • A5 or A4 sketchbook or loose paper
  • Pencils within the 4B to 4H range
  • Coloured pencils
  • Rubber
  • Black biro or black felt tip, or black fine line drawing pen or black sharpie pen
  • Scissors
  • Pritt stick glue.

This course, funded by Hampshire Achieves, is aimed at Hampshire residents aged 19+. Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have.
