Andover Library

Wednesday 24th September, 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd October 2025

Learn the basics of portrait drawing using graphite and charcoal. Learners will create art projects that bring people together, encourage conversation, and help to build a stronger sense of community.

  • Discuss and define the structure of the human face in order to draw individual features in a realistic manner
  • Draw a series of sketches, at least 3, displaying key characteristics
  • Identify and sketch a series of facial features using tone to develop realism (graphite and charcoal)
  • Demonstrate a fine art portrait drawing whilst developing learned skills of tonal variation
  • Discuss and share the techniques used in your art work

About the course: Explore the essentials of portrait drawing using graphite and charcoal, all within a small, supportive group. This course offers a calm and friendly space to enjoy sketching, connect with others, and grow your understanding and appreciation of portrait art together

How will I be assessed: Learners will receive ongoing support from the Tutor.
