Chop, Grate and Make – Introducing food technology to the EYFS

Friday 13th June 2025, 9.30am to 4.00pm, Face-to-face, Winchester Area

Evidence from the Food Foundation has highlighted that in the last 10 years, the number of children eating little, or no vegetables has increased. Nearly a third of primary children eat less than one portion of vegetables a day. Research shows that if children enjoy eating and handling healthy foods, they are more likely to eat them for life.

This practical hands on and cross curricular course will explore the benefits of incorporating and engaging children in positive, safe, and practical cooking, making, preparing and sensory activities around the wonders of food.

Run by the Hampshire Early Years Advisory Team this practical course will:

  • Have a focus on the creative and physical learning process that will enable children to develop strong Characteristics of Effective Teaching and Learning
  • Strengthen knowledge of sensory food education
  • Include opportunities to explore and use a range of tools and resources to support the safe delivery of creating with food
  • A practical hands-on opportunity to create and make with food
  • Provide opportunities to discuss all practicalities of Food Hygiene and Safety

It is recommended that delegates complete food hygiene and food safety e-learning to complement this course. Food Hygiene - E-learning course – Hampshire County Council Shop (hants.gov.uk)
