9.00am to 4.15pm

The course will equip the first aider with skills to be able to confidently undertake emergency first aid if someone becomes ill or injured. The course is set over one day and is instructor led, interactive and engaging with the emphasis on practical application of first aid skills. There are only practical assessments, with no theory based exams. Should you require a certificate, the cost of this course is £30 payable directly to the tutor on the day. The course is free if you do not require a qualification.

Learning Goals:

  • Demonstrate how to maintain an effective airway & place an unconscious, breathing casualty into the recovery position
  • Demonstrate Choking & CPR on an adult casualty and recognise the signs of agonal breathing
  • List at least three priorities of care for first aid
  • Identify the correct procedure and priorities of care for shock

Who is this course for: This UK Government-funded course is for Hampshire residents aged 19+ with little or no knowledge of first aid. It is ideal for those with personal caring responsibilities, volunteering roles, active community members or anyone looking to boost confidence and employability such as people returning to work. It is not for businesses or workplace training. We reserve the right to refuse bookings for business use.

Please note: Eligibility criteria applies and will be checked upon enrolment.

Course purpose: To develop stronger communities 

Previous knowledge or experience: This practical based course is suitable for both complete novices as well as those wishing to refresh their skills.

How will I learn: Tutor demonstration, individual and whole group practical activities

How will I be assessed: Learner demonstration/support/feedback and peer support. There is a practical assessment for anyone wishing to gain a first aid qualification, and a good level of English will be required to pass the assessment.

What shall I bring: It is a practical course and floor work for CPR/Recovery position is needed so please wear appropriate clothing. Please bring refreshments and lunch.

This course, funded by Hampshire Achieves, is aimed at Hampshire residents aged 19+. Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have. If you have limited mobility which could affect your ability to safely self-evacuate, please let us know when booking.
