An opportunity to improve your spoken English, comprehension and written English in a group setting.

Learning Goals:

  • Participate in oral discussions, giving thoughts and opinions on many interesting topics
  • Use previous learning and subject specific vocabulary when discussing new topics
  • Read and discuss detailed texts, demonstrating understanding and coherent pronunciation
  • Apply grammar skills and knowledge in both oral and written work

About the course: To read, write, speak and listen to English effectively in different situations, using a varied vocabulary and correct grammar, including a range of tenses and subject-specific vocabulary

Who is this course for: This course, funded by UK government is for Hampshire residents aged 19+ who would like to improve their English skills

Previous knowledge or experience: Learners should be able to speak and understand some English. Experience of ESOL Beginners Plus is desirable; initial assessment by the tutor during the first session.

How will I learn: Learning will be adapted according to the learner’s level of understanding. There will be group and paired discussions, focussing on real life scenarios and communication skills

How will I be assessed: Informal observation and tutor assessment throughout the course

What shall I bring: a pen and notebook

Next steps: Continued enrolment with ESOL Improvers; Community Connections and/or Hong Kong Connections at a local library; ESOL – Introduction to English for driving theory/ Further English for driving theory; ESOL – Life in the UK (Preparing for UK citizenship); Accredited online ESOL course (Reading) Entry 3

Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners.
