This course will provide learners with simple English vocabulary and sentences. The focus is on communication for use in real-life situations. Through covering areas such as pronunciation, basic grammar and punctuation, simple writing and reading, and speaking and listening, the learners will begin to develop an understanding of the English language.
Learning goals
- Listen to simple English and respond to basic questions about familiar topics
- Use simple words and phrases to talk to others
- Read simple words and short sentences, and show understanding by answering simple questions
- Write simple words and sentences to share basic information and answer questions
About the course: An opportunity to begin to learn English in a group setting. You wi l learn to read, write and say simple sentences. You will be able to have simple conversations.
Who is this course for: This course, funded by UK government, is for Hampshire residents aged 19+ with no prior English, who want to learn how to understand, speak, read and write basic English.
Please note: Eligibility criteria applies and will be checked upon enrolment.
Course purpose: To improve essential skills
Previous knowledge or experience: none required. Initial assessment by the tutor during the first session.
How will I learn: Learning will be through differentiated activities according to level of understanding.
How will I be assessed: Informal observation and assessment by the tutor
What shall I bring: Please bring a notebook and pen or pencil

This course, funded by Hampshire Achieves, is aimed at Hampshire residents aged 19+. Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have. If you have limited mobility which could affect your ability to safely self-evacuate, please let us know when booking.
