1.00pm to 2.30pm

This course is the perfect way to widen your knowledge of vocabulary and grammar on a variety of topics. Focus is on communication for use in real life situations.

Learning Goals:

  • Take part in oral discussions using phrases or simple sentences to express meaning
  • Listen and respond to questions using simple present or past tense on a range of topics
  • Read and discuss texts at this level to demonstrate understanding
  • Select and use words, phrases and sentences to record information

About the course: An opportunity to improve your English in a group setting. You will learn to read longer texts and discuss these. You will start to use past and future tenses and will learn to write short pieces of text. You will be able to engage in short forms of social communication.

Who is this course for: This course, funded by UK government is for Hampshire residents aged 19+ who have learnt a little English before and wish to improve their skills and confidence in speaking. Students will be working towards A2 level.

Previous knowledge or experience: Learners should be able to speak and understand some English. Experience of ESOL Beginners Plus is desirable; initial assessment by the tutor during the first session

How will I learn: Learning will be through differentiated activities according to level of understanding

How will I be assessed: Informal observation and assessment by the tutor

What shall I bring: Please bring a notebook and pen

Next steps: ESOL – Intermediate (A2/B1); ESOL Improvers (B1); attend Community Connections or Hong Kong Connections at a local library

This course, funded by Hampshire Achieves, is aimed at Hampshire residents aged 19+. Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have.
