Fruit Pruning with Chris Bird at Minstead Study Centre
Saturday 8th February 2025
10.00am to 3.00pm
For the 11th year running we’re offering a hands on practical day with Chris Bird. Senior lecturer at Sparsholt College, Chris coordinates the Colleges RHS Chelsea Flower Show garden, winning 11 gold medals. He has also published The Fundamentals of Horticulture for the RHS.
Fruit trees that are not pruned become congested and unproductive. During the day you will learn how to improve the health and productivity of trees by appropriate pruning. The course will provide participants with practical skills through hands on experience of the renovation and ongoing pruning of trees and will cover all types of tree from recently planted to mature and trained examples. Although concentrating on apple trees Chris knows everything there is to know about fruit and there will be the chance to look at currants and berries as well.
The course is limited to 10 places to ensure that all participants have ample opportunity for practical work. No prior knowledge is required. Please feel free to bring your own tools (for example secateurs/pruning saw) although some tools will be available at the Centre.
Tea & Coffee provided.
No refunds are given unless the course doesn’t fill up and we need to cancel it.
