Inclusion Team Understanding Children’s Behaviour: Supporting their Social and Emotional Development training

Autumn term 2026: Tuesday 13th October 2026 - 9.30am to 12.30pm – Delivered virtually

Spring term 2027: Thursday 11th March 2027, Face-to-face - 9.30am to 12.30pm – Basingstoke area

Summer 1 2027: Thursday 26th May 2027 - 9.30am to 12.30pm - Face-to-face - Fareham area

Summer 2 2027: Tuesday 8th June 2027 - 9.30am to 12.30pm - Face-to-face - Winchester area

This course looks at early brain development and the importance of co regulation to support self-regulation. It explores underlying factors that may be impacting on the child, and what the behaviour may be communicating. The course will focus on how to respond to and support a child’s social emotional and mental health using a range of tools to help identify the communicative function of the behaviour. It will highlight proactive strategies and teaching of new skills through a behaviour plan as part of a positive approach.

By the end of this training, you will be able to

•            Understand how early brain development shapes behaviour

•            Learn how co regulation, self esteem, and resilience influence a child’s responses

•            Recognise the role adults play in supporting behaviour

•            Understand that behaviour is communicating a need

•            Use practical tools to analyse behaviour with confidence

•            Apply proactive strategies in your setting

•            Create effective behaviour plans that support children’s social and emotional development
