Introducing Internet Safety: A Beginner’s Guide to Navigating the Web

Tuesday 22nd, 29th April, 6th, 13th and 20th May 2025
10.00am to 12.00pm
You will be introduced to online skills, giving you some basic foundations for navigating the internet, using search engines, managing emails, and equipping learners with core knowledge to detect online scams.
Learning Goals:
- Demonstrate how to open an internet browser and navigate to a given website
- Use a chosen search engine to find information and determine its reliability
- Demonstrate how to send and reply to emails
- Identify safe and unsafe websites and emails
- Describe how to make online purchases safely
Who is this course for: This course is for people looking to learn how to use the basics of the internet, with a particular focus around online safety
Previous knowledge or experience: Learners should be able to switch on and navigate a laptop, and use a track pad/mouse and keyboard
How will I learn: Through discussion, demonstration, and practical exercises
How will I be assessed: By tutor observation, responding to discussions, and completion of exercises during learning sessions
What shall I bring: a notebook and pen. Devices are available for use during this course - session times only
