This course is about awareness of Mental Health Conditions in the Work Place. It is the initial care and support given to someone experiencing a mental health problem until professional help takes over that is really important. It’s designed to help you understand the signs and symptoms of mental health issues such as stress, anxiety & depression, as well as exploring stigma, judgment, and the bystander effect. You will learn how to effectively communicate with someone who may be experiencing mental health problems, as well as being able to sign post them to the appropriate professional services.
Important Advisory – This course is for those who wish to take this qualification into the workplace to boost their CV and become a Mental Health Lead. If you are wishing to gain an understanding of mental health issues and ways to support others experiencing poor mental health this is the course for you. If you are in crisis, under treatment or in therapy yourself, this course will not provide enough support for you and could expose personal triggers that you may wish to avoid.
Learning Goals:
- Describe at least 3 characteristics of poor mental health and explain how poor mental health can impact an individual's daily life and work performance.
- Describe stigma and identify at least 3 negative effects that stigma can have on individuals experiencing mental health difficulties.
- List at least 3 common signs and symptoms associated with stress, anxiety, and depression.
- Demonstrate how to complete a Mental Health Action Plan, identifying appropriate support strategies and sources of professional help.
About the course: This course is designed to give the learner the knowledge to be able to identify mental health conditions, as well as the skills to be able to start an open conversation, without judgement. You will learn about signposting the person towards professional help, as well as exploring self-help options you can recommend.
Who is this course for: This course, funded by UK government is for Hampshire residents aged 19+ who meet the funding eligibility criteria. It is aimed at adults who are looking to gain skills to support their journey into work. If you are experiencing low levels of mental health, you will not be able to join the program. The tutor will not be able to support personal mental health concerns. The tutor will make contact pre course to ensure suitability and eligibility.
Please note: Eligibility criteria applies and will be checked upon enrolment.
Course purpose: Preparation for employment
Previous knowledge or experience: No previous knowledge or experience required.
How will I learn: Tutor demonstration/participation. This is an in-depth course and made to be interactive so some homework will be expected
How will I be assessed: Marked Assessment Paper
Next steps: Progress opportunities from this course is a level 3 certificate in understanding mental health
This course, funded by Hampshire Achieves, is aimed at Hampshire residents aged 19+. Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have. If you have limited mobility which could affect your ability to safely self-evacuate, please let us know when booking.
