The aim of this course is to equip safeguarding leads and managers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to carry out their statutory safeguarding responsibilities effectively. The course focuses on decision making, defensible recording and the appropriate application of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, while embedding reflective practice to drive continuous improvement using the CQC CREWS principles.

Understand their safeguarding roles and responsibilities, including how to prepare for and contribute to meetings.
Identify the features of good quality safeguarding recording across the safeguarding journey.
Apply the Mental Capacity Act (2005) in practice, including when and how to complete mental capacity assessments.
Analyse the functional test, supported decision making, and when a best interests decision is required.
Evaluate the ACID test, including continuous supervision and control, lack of consent, and what must be captured in a DoLS referral.
Use CREWS principles to strengthen reflective practice, quality improvement and safeguarding assurance.
Translate statutory guidance into confident, ethical and legally compliant practice using realistic scenarios and case discussions.
