Level 3 (Year 6+) Bikeability Training - Road based Training

12.15pm to 3.00pm

This course is for participants in Year 6 and above.

Participants musthave completedLevel2 Bikeability and be competent and confident with all outcomes delivered on the

BikeabilityLevel2 course, showing these consistently within their riding. They must ride regularly and have experience of riding in different environments.

Please note, not every child is ready forLevel3after completingLevel2. If you are unsure whether this course is suitable, please speak to a member of our team before booking.

The Level 3 Bikeabilitycoursedevelops participants skills and confidence so they can ride in different road environments, including complex, often busy roads and junctions, sometimes with speed limits above30mph. It is delivered on progressively more challenging roads and junctions with the potential for an environment with a higher volume and faster motor traffic. The goal for participants is to link manoeuvres in a planned journey. By the end of the session, participants should understand that lifelong cycling involves continuous practice and improvement of skills.

Skills from the below list may be taught on theLevel3course

  • Using roundabouts
  • Riding with other riders
  • Using traffic lights and passing queuing traffic
  • Using cycling infrastructure
  • Using multi-lane roads
  • Using multi-lane roundabouts
  • Being aware of driver blind spots and sharing bus lanes
  • Riding on roads with a speed limit above30mph

When participating in thelevel3course an instructor at any point may deem it is appropriate to teach elements of the Level2 course if the participants ability is not at the requiredlevelto continue thelevel3course.

Additional information

  • The activity will take place outside, so please ensure that appropriate clothing is worn.
  • Each participant will need a fully operational bike with two working brakes and a cycle helmet (we have some available on request)
  • Participants must wear a helmet
  • A hi-vis jacket will be given to any participant who is cycling on the road - you can bring your own if you would like too

At the end of the training the children will be given a certificate and badge. After the course has been completed, you will be sent a unique URL to access your child’s rider outcomes and instructor feedback, called the Bikeability Club.

The course will be delivered by our Hampshire Outdoors Bikeability Team and is subsidized. No refunds are given unless we need to cancel the course.
