Making Creative Connections: Oil Painting for Beginners

10.00am to 12.00pm
Learn about the materials used in oil painting and how they work. Create paintings using both layered and one step (ala prima) techniques. Use colour theory, mixing, tone and brush skills to shape your final artwork. Learners will create art projects that bring people together, encourage conversation, and help to build a stronger sense of community.
Learning Goals:
- Identify and use essential oil painting supplies, including brushes, paints, palettes, and canvases
- Develop confidence of applying tone and colour within your oil painting.
Describe the process of building a painting in layers, from underpainting to final details - Apply learned techniques and develop your confidence to complete a simple oil painting from start to finish
- Discuss and share the techniques used in your art work
About the course: Explore how oil painting materials work and how to use them, all within a small, supportive group. This course offers a calm and friendly space to enjoy painting, connect with others, and grow your understanding and appreciation of art together
Who is this course for: This beginner-friendly course is a great way to start exploring oil painting. You’ll learn the basics of how the medium works, including its strengths and challenges. Along the way, you’ll build a solid foundation in colour theory and the key elements that make a painting successful
Previous knowledge or experience: Some art experience is useful but not required
How will I learn: Tutor led demonstrations and your own application
How will I be assessed: Learners will receive ongoing support from the Tutor
What shall I bring: Material cost of £15 to be handed to the Tutor at the beginning of the first session. Please wear appropriate clothing. If you have a desk easel, please feel free to bring one but it is not essential. Please bring a pen for the first session to complete some paperwork. Lastly, please bring a small lidded jar
