Mindful Drawing: Explore, Express, Relax
Waterlooville Library
Monday 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th June 2026
10.00am to 1.00pm
Through playful mark‑making with tone, line and shape, learners will explore relaxation, mindfulness and a freer, more enjoyable drawing practice.
Learning Goals:
- Create at least 2 large‑scale drawings that show increasing experimentation through varied line weight and mark-making
- Use a variety of materials to create drawings to support mindful focus and relaxation
- Demonstrate at least two new techniques, using the process to support increased creative confidence
- Create original drawings taking inspiration from artists such as Tim Biskup, Barbara Hepworth and Pablo Picasso, showing how their work can influence your own creative response
About the course: This course is designed to free both your physical artistic practice and boost your mental health and wellbeing, through a series of creatively engaging lessons where we will have fun playing with line and form in an exciting and experimental way
Who is this course for: This course, funded by UK government is for Hampshire residents aged 19+ who are looking to improve their wellbeing and boost their confidence through artistic play.
Previous knowledge or experience: As long as you have a keen interest in art and are open to making work that pushes you to experiment and have fun, then no previous experience is necessary.
How will I learn: Through looking at other artists, making lots of experimental drawings and talking about art with the group
How will I be assessed: By creating a series of drawings and looking back at what has and hasn’t worked through the duration of the course. We will also be discussing the work and looking at other artists for inspiration.
What shall I bring: A3 spiral bound sketchbook., A3 lightweight drawing board (available at Hobbycraft) this is desirable, A range of soft B pencils. Materials that will be provided: Graphite blocks, Larger paper, Masking tape
NB there will be a £5 charge for materials payable to the tutor on the first session.
Next steps: Follow on courses delving into multi colour printing techniques with Learning in Libraries. Attendance at local art/craft sessions at your local library
This course, funded by Hampshire Achieves, is aimed at Hampshire residents aged 19+. Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have. If you have limited mobility which could affect your ability to safely self-evacuate, please let us know when booking.
