Mixed Media Relief Artwork for Beginners

10.00am to 12.00pm

An introduction to the exciting world of 2D mixed media artwork. Techniques explored include creating handmade decorative papers using mark making processes, developing mixed media samples and creating mixed media artwork. You will also explore formal elements/visual language, mark making, 2D construction techniques and investigating how other artists have explored similar themes/subjects, materials, processes and techniques in a similar way.

Learning Goals:

  • Identify a range of 2D/3D mixed media techniques, media, tools, and equipment associated with 2D mixed media artwork
  • Demonstrate skills, knowledge and understanding in selecting, using and applying a wide range of 2D mixed media techniques, media, tools and equipment effectively and safely
  • Select and apply a variety of mixed media techniques to create unique completed and finished 2D artwork
  • Identify, explore, select, and apply a selection of 2D formal elements, visual language and composition techniques to create exciting mixed media artwork
  • Explore and identify how mixed media artists have used a variety of mixed media materials, techniques, processes, tools and equipment within their own work and how this can support and inform your own creative practice (artist examples and group discussion)
  • Annotation and reviewing own creative practice (keeping and maintaining notes throughout the short course)

About the course: This course is designed to introduce you to the exciting work of mixed media and to develop your own creativity and sense of wellbeing, within this short course

Who is this course for: Anyone who would like to try something new and to work with likeminded people developing their creative practice, health and wellbeing

Previous knowledge or experience: None required, all abilities welcome

How will I learn: Tutor demonstrations, questions and answers, practical activities

How will I be assessed: Formative assessment only through Q and A, learner annotation/note taking, practical activities/samples/artwork (outcomes)

What shall I bring: Apron or wear old clothing. Box file to store mixed media papers and a note book. and £12 materials fee
