This short course will equip learners to confidently use a smartphone (iPhone or Android) to communicate, access information, download and use apps, manage email accounts, and follow essential online safety practices to protect themselves and their personal information.
- Use smartphones, apps and email services confidently and independently to communicate with others, find information and complete at least 2 everyday digital tasks
- Manage and use digital tools safely and effectively, including downloading apps, setting up accounts and using at least 2 key features on Android and iPhone devices
- Protect yourself online by recognising at least 3 common online risks, following basic cyber security practices and making informed decisions about privacy settings and use of personal information
Who is this course for: This course, funded by UK government, is for Hampshire residents aged 19+ and is designed to help you develop the confidence, knowledge and practical ski ls needed to use smartphones, apps and email services safely, effectively and independently in everyday life, work and learning.
Please note: Eligibility criteria applies and will be checked upon enrolment.
Course purpose: Preparation for employment
Previous knowledge or experience: No experience needed
How will I learn: This course uses a supportive and inclusive approach to learning, encouraging learners to build confidence through a variety of activities. You will learn through tutor demonstrations, group discussions, peer support, practical hands-on tasks using smartphones and apps, and short written activities designed to reinforce key ski ls and knowledge. Opportunities will be provided to practise new ski ls in a safe and supportive environment, a lowing learners to progress at their own pace.
How will I be assessed: There is no formal assessment for this course. Progress will be monitored through participation in group discussions, completion of practical activities, quizzes, and reflective exercises. These activities will help the tutor identify individual strengths, monitor learning progress, and provide additional support, guidance, or signposting to further learning opportunities where appropriate.
What shall I bring: Notebook and pen, Your mobile device Android or iPhone (fully charged). Outlook or gmail account log in information – Please note you will never be asked to share your password/s, this is simply to enable you to login to your account. You may wish to bring a personal laptop. Devices are available for learners if required, for use on site during the course time only.

This course, funded by Hampshire Achieves, is aimed at Hampshire residents aged 19+. Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have.
