As part of Only Murders in the Library, the annual series of crime writers talks at Basingstoke Discovery Centre.

Join three acclaimed women authors for an engaging discussion about their writing, careers and experiences as authors. The panel will explore how their work is perceived, the challenges and opportunities they have encountered as women writers, and the evolving landscape of contemporary publishing.

The authors will also share practical advice for aspiring writers of all backgrounds, offering insights into developing your craft, finding your voice and navigating the journey to publication.

Event running time is around 40 minutes plus time for a Q&A. Waterstones will be present for book sales and signing before and after the main event.

Author details: 
Katy Brent is the author of three novels in the Kitty Collins series, including 2026’s To All the Men I’ve Killed Before. Previously an award-winning journalist, she always dreamed of writing a book and lockdown finally gave her the excuse to do it.

Julie Mae Cohen is the author of the acclaimed darkly comic thrillers Bad Men and Eat, Slay, Love. Known for her razor-sharp wit, morally complex heroines and deliciously twisted plots, she has quickly become one of the most distinctive new voices in contemporary crime fiction. An award-winning, bestselling novelist whose books have sold more than a million copies worldwide. Twice selected for the Richard and Judy Book Club, she is an Associate Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Reading, Vice President of the Romantic Novelists’ Association, and founder of the RNA Rainbow Chapter for LGBTQ+ writers. 

Charlotte Vassell studied history at the University of Liverpool and completed a Master’s in art history at SOAS, University of London, before training as an actor at Drama Studio London. The Other Half, the first installment of her DI Caius Beauchamp series was published in 2023. Charlotte won the Edgar Allen Poe Award for Best Novel in 2025 for The In Crowd, the second volume in the series.
