Improve health and well being through creative nature inspired art activities that encourage self expression, build confidence and support personal development.

Learning Goals:

  • Create at least four pieces of artwork using a range of painting, drawing and collage techniques to support creativity, self-expression and relaxation.
  • Explore and discuss different artworks, using them as inspiration to build confidence and experiment with a variety of art materials.
  • Try at least one new art material or technique to develop confidence, learn new skills and encourage a positive attitude towards learning.
  • Identify ways that taking part in creative activities can improve mental well-being, reduce stress and support a sense of achievement.
  • Reflect on your creative journey and identify how regular participation in art activities can support your personal well-being and quality of life.

About the course: Use the work of different nature artists to express yourself, have fun and try out new techniques, benefits of creative activities include helping process thoughts, relax, practice self-care, connect with others, embrace mistakes, experiment and try things out. This course aims to build connections with others, while helping you to make unique, personal artworks which communicate your interests and ideas.

Who is this course for: This course, funded by UK government, is for Hampshire residents aged 19+ who are complete beginners and would like to create for fun with like-minded people.

Please note: Eligibility criteria applies and will be checked upon enrolment.

Course purpose: To improve health and wellbeing

Previous knowledge or experience: No knowledge of art or previous experience required.

How will I learn: Through observation, discussion and practical, hands-on tasks.

How will I be assessed: Tutor observation and individual work.

What shall I bring:

  • A sketchbook or plain sheets of paper (minimum 140 lb (300 gsm) if possible, so that pages are thick enough to withstand paint and glue)
  • Glue (e.g. PVA or a glue stick)
  • Craft, Acrylic or Gouache Paint (in a minimum of red, yellow and blue)
  • Paintbrushes
  • Water pot
  • Palette
  • Collage Materials (coloured paper, old magazines, junk mail and other paper scraps)
  • Sketching Pencils (e.g. 2B, 4B and 8B,)
  • Scissors
  • If you have them, you might wish to bring along Wax Crayons, Pastels, Felt Tip Pens or Coloured Pencils to experiment with.

First Sunday of the month , 2pm to 4pm, all abilities welcome. £5 per session. This course, funded by Hampshire Achieves, is aimed at Hampshire residents aged 19+. Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have.
