To equip Learners with the digital and employability skills needed to create professional, tailored CVs and covering letters that effectively communicate their skills, experience and achievements, increasing their confidence and readiness for employment, career progression or further study.

Learning Goals:

  • Identify and explain the key features of an effective CV and covering letter.
  • Create and tailor a professional CV and covering letter using digital tools.
  • Review, evaluate and improve application documents using feedback.

Who is this course for: This course, funded by UK government, is for Hampshire residents aged 19+ and is designed to support you to produce stand out CVs or job applications, completely free of charge. This programme will support you to apply for work in any sector and will cover how to write strong personal statements, phrasing achievements, meeting the person specification, and creating confident, clear job applications.

Please note: Eligibility criteria applies and will be checked upon enrolment.

Course purpose: Preparation for employment

Previous knowledge or experience: No experience needed

How will I learn: We encourage supporting each other to learn in small groups through group discussion, individual online research and activities, written tasks and activities.

How will I be assessed: There is no formal assessment on the course material however, engagement in group discussions, completion of quizzes and written activities will help inform the tutor of where an individual may require additional support and signposting to further learning or support.

What shall I bring: Notebook and pen, Your most up to date CV with dates of previous jobs, You may wish to bring a personal laptop. Devices are available for learners if required, for use on site during the course time only.

Next steps: Sector specific Skills Bootcamps for example, Early Year Care, Health and Social Care, Customer Service delivered by Itchen College or other education providers, Functional skills qualifications in English and Maths for those not holding a L2 qualification.

This course, funded by Hampshire Achieves, is aimed at Hampshire residents aged 19+. Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have. If you have limited mobility which could affect your ability to safely self-evacuate, please let us know when booking.
