This course is for those with little or no first aid knowledge regarding children and babies. It is an instructor led interactive and engaging session that will give the learner skills to be able to respond to everyday first aid emergencies, in the home and in the community. If desired, it can be certificated as Level 3 Emergency Paediatric First Aid Qualification, for which a fee of £30 applies (payable to the tutor on the day)
Learning Goals:
- Demonstrate how to maintain an effective airway and place an unconscious/breathing infant/ child into the recovery position
- Demonstrate CPR on an infant & child and recognise the signs of agonal breathing
- Demonstrate supporting a child or infant choking – 5 back blasts, 5 abdominal thrusts, or chest thrusts for an infant under one
- List three priorities of care when supporting an infant or child in shock/bleeding.
The course also covers how to act safely and effectively when an accident or emergency occurs, what the treatment and priorities of care are for an unconscious infant/child. How to recognise and treat a child/infant having a seizure. Recognise the signs of cardiac arrest. You will learn how to use a defibrillator. You will also learn the treatment and priorities of care for minor injuries, cuts, grazes, splinters.
Who is this course for: This UK Government-funded course is for Hampshire residents aged 19+ with little or no knowledge of first aid. It is ideal for those with personal caring responsibilities, volunteering roles, active community members or anyone looking to boost confidence and employability such as people returning to work. It is not for businesses or workplace training. We reserve the right to refuse bookings for business use. Unfortunately, we are unable to allow children to attend.

Course purpose: To develop stronger communities
Previous knowledge or experience: This practical based course is suitable for both complete novices as well as those wishing to refresh their skills.
How will I learn: Through tutor demonstrations, individual and whole group practical activities.
How will I be assessed: If desired, successful candidates will be awarded a level 3 qualification in Emergency Paediatric First Aid, valid for 3 years with a practical assessment during the training.

This course, funded by Hampshire Achieves, is aimed at Hampshire residents aged 19+. Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have. If you have limited mobility which could affect your ability to safely self-evacuate, please let us know when booking.
