Painting in Acrylics

Gosport Discovery Centre

Friday 25th April, 2nd, 9th and 16th May 2025

10.00am to 1.00pm

To enable learners to develop confidence and skill in painting with acrylics.

  • Understand how different marks create different effects
  • Undertake two mark making activities
  • Undertake a repeat image activity
  • Create at least one painting using acrylics

About the course: Approachable sessions and activities to help you develop your skills with acrylics. This course is ideal for those looking to build their skills and confidence in using acrylic paints as well as those who are new to using acrylic paint – everyone is welcome. Please see below for what to bring to the first session

Who is this course for: Individuals looking to develop their creative skills in using acrylics paints

Previous knowledge or experience: Ideal for those wanting to gain confidence. A basic understanding of how to draw (i.e. shading, texture, highlights and shadows) is helpful but not essential

How will I learn: Through a range of activities, demonstrations and practice

How will I be assessed: Through completing activities and through class discussion.

What shall I bring:
• Acrylic paints: we use a small range of colours, the following would be the most helpful: ultramarine blue, cadmium red, cadmium yellow
and white. You may find it helpful to bring other primary colours such as lemon yellow, phthalocyanine/Prussian blue, cerulean blue,
crimson, vermillion
• A range of brushes, including flat, round and filbert.
• Watercolour paper for activities and preparation, 220gsm upwards.
• A canvas or canvas board for your main piece, approximately A4 size.
• You may wish to bring a drawing board or something to lean on, up to A3.
• Old cloth/ flannel or kitchen roll.
• Palette.
• Water pot.
• An apron, or wear clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on, acrylic paint can be difficult to remove.
• Please bring at least two images as a starting point for your own choice of paintings.

If a learner decides to withdraw from a course before a course begins, the following charges should be made: 

  • 5 working days or more before course starts a full refund will be issued

Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have.
