About the course: Research shows music helps bring people together and build connections. This course uses shared music-making to help people meet others, build relationships, and feel part of a group. Learners will develop social connections, reduce isolation, and feel a stronger sense of belonging in their community
Who is this course for: This course, funded by UK government, is for Hampshire residents aged 19+ who want to learn the ukulele while engaging with others in a shared activity that supports social connectedness, strengthens community ties and promotes a sense of belonging
Please note: Eligibility criteria applies and will be checked upon enrolment
Course purpose: To develop stronger communities
Previous knowledge or experience: Ability to use individual fingers and grip
How will I learn: Through tutor demonstration, group discussions and playing the ukulele
How will I be assessed: Tutor observation, playing the ukulele
What shall I bring: A ukulele and a bottle of water/any refreshments you’d like
Next steps: This could lead to the Adult Tailored learning Ukulele for Improvers or Fingerpicking on the Ukulele courses, alternatively to membership of a local club. The chord fingerings of the ukulele are like those used on the guitar but much easier to manage, so this course could also be seen as a step towards playing the guitar
Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have.
