This course aims to provide you with basic strategies to build positive relationships with your child and manage your child’s behaviour in a positive way. This course will help parents and carers to support their child’s learning and behaviour. Suitable from toddlers to age 11.To make sure everyone gets the most out of the course, please be aware that it focuses on general parenting approaches rather than personalised guidance for complex family situations, specialist SEND processes, or individual mental‑health needs. If you feel you may need more tailored support, we can help signpost you to the right services. We may also contact you before the course to ensure it’s a good fit for your needs. it’s a good fit for your needs.

Learning Goals:

  • Describe what positive parenting is.
  • Identify three ways to build a positive relationship with your child.
  • Teach your child at least two new skills and behaviours.
  • Identify and describe at least one strategy to help your child develop self-control.
  • Apply two strategies to manage misbehaviour and feed back to the group.
  • Be able to identify and explain at least two positive parenting strategies that you intend to use.

About the course: This course is for parents and carers who want to build a better relationship with their child and feel more confident in handling everyday behaviour. In a small, friendly group, you’ll learn simple ways to support your child’s learning and manage behaviour in a calm, positive way. It’s a relaxed space to share ideas, ask questions, and pick up useful tips you can use at home. Suitable from toddlers to age 11.

Who is this course for: This course, funded by UK government, is for Hampshire residents aged 19+ who want to learn strategies to manage their child’s behaviour in a positive way while developing a positive relationship with them.

Please note: Eligibility criteria applies and will be checked upon enrolment.

Course purpose: To equip parents/carers to support children's learning

Previous knowledge or experience: None required.

How will I learn: Group discussions and practice activities.

How will I be assessed: Observation and discussion.

What shall I bring: Please bring a notebook and pen.

This course, funded by Hampshire Achieves, is aimed at Hampshire residents aged 19+. Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have. If you have limited mobility which could affect your ability to safely self-evacuate, please let us know when booking.
