This course aims to support learners’ well-being through creative printmaking. It will provide a calm space where learners can build confidence while developing new creative skills. The course promotes positive lifestyle habits by encouraging regular time for relaxation, helping learners embed creative wellbeing practices into their daily lives.
Learning Goals:
- Use simple design principles such as shape and composition to create a lino print design that supports focus
- Safely carve a linocut block, developing your fine motor skills
- Demonstrate how to ink and print an image
- Experiment with at least four different mark-making techniques
- Set a simple personal goal for continuing a creative or wellbeing activity beyond the course
Who is this course for: This course, funded by UK government, is for Hampshire residents aged 19+ who would like to improve their wellbeing through creative activity. It is particularly suitable for learners experiencing stress, low confidence, social isolation, or those seeking a calming and supportive environment to try something new.
Please note: eligibility criteria apply and will be checked upon enrolment.
Course purpose: To improve health and wellbeing
Previous knowledge or experience: No previous experience is required.
How will I learn: Through drawing, carving, printing and having fun.
How will I be assessed: Informal, supportive assessment through observation and discussion Personal reflection on wellbeing benefits and progress towards individual goals
What shall I bring:
- An A5 or A4 sketchbook
- A HB pencil
- Rubber
- Pencil sharpener
- Sharpie marker
- Ruler
- Any Lino cutting equipment you may already own.
- The tutor will provide 2 pieces of lino for you to work on. Should you require more, these will be available at a cost of £2.50 per block
Next steps: Carry on practising at home. Follow on courses including Multi-Colour Printing Techniques in your local Library. Attendance at free local art/craft sessions at your local library.
This course, funded by Hampshire Achieves, is aimed at Hampshire residents aged 19+. Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have.
