Print and Pause: An Introduction to Linocut Art

Friday 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th March 2026
10.00am to 1.00pm
To introduce learners to the calming process of linocut printmaking, encouraging focus, patience, and a sense of achievement through hands-on creativity.
- Consider shape and composition to create a design and transfer it to a linocut block
- Safely carve an image into a linocut block whilst developing your fine motor skills
- Demonstrate how to ink up and print the image onto paper
- Experiment with at least 4 different mark making techniques
- Self evaluate how taking time out of your week to engage in a creative activity has a positive impact on your overall wellbeing
Who is this course for: This course, funded by UK government is for Hampshire residents aged 19+ and offers a space to explore linocut printmaking as a mindful, hands-on activity. Ideal for anyone seeking calm, creativity, and connection through art.
Previous knowledge or experience: As long as have a keen interest in art then no previous experience is necessary.
How will I learn: Through drawing, carving, printing and having fun. We will also talk about different styles of artwork and what you are interested in.
How will I be assessed: By creating a series of images and looking back at what has and hasn’t worked through the duration of the course. We will also be discussing the work and looking at other artists for inspiration.
What shall I bring: Listed are ideas of what you’ll need, a variety is good:
- An A5 or A4 sketchbook
- A HB pencil
- Rubber
- Pencil sharpener
- Sharpie marker
- Ruler
- Any Lino cutting equipment you may already own
NB there will be a £10 charge for materials payable to the tutor on the first session. This will cover 1 piece of Lino, plus use of inks, tools and paper for the duration of the course. Additional pieces of Lino can be purchased at £2.50 each.
