This course aims to bring people together through group singing, encouraging social connection, inclusion, and a sense of belonging while building confidence, and positive relationships withing the local community.
- Demonstrate improved vocal technique by contributing confidently to at least two group songs.
- Describe how group singing can build confidence and strengthens connections with others.
- Demonstrate improved breathing and phrasing while singing as part of a group activity
- Describe how shared signing activities can support well being and reduce social isolation
Who is this course for: This course, funded by UK government, is for Hampshire residents aged 19+ who enjoy singing and want to meet new people, build confidence, and take part in a friendly and supportive group. Please note: Eligibility criteria applies and will be checked upon enrolment.
Course purpose: To develop stronger communities
Previous knowledge or experience: No previous experience is needed, and you do not need to be able to read music as all songs will be taught by ear
How will I learn: You will learn how to sing with more skill and feel better through fun exercises and songs from around the world.
How will I be assessed: Tutor observation
What shall I bring: A bottle of water and a pencil
Next steps: Developing your singing further in a choral setting or by having individual singing lessons to develop further repertoire. Alternatively you could join the Rock Choir – New Forest. Further Singing courses at Hythe Library.
Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have.
