In 1946, a police constable was murdered in the silent hours as he patrolled his beat in Burton on Trent. He had disturbed a man during the commission of a night time burglary as the suspect struggled with a heavily-laden pushchair. It would take 10 years to bring the suspected offender before the courts. This is an extraordinary tale of bravery, an examination of life in post-war Britain and the attitudes towards American GI servicemen who had remained in Britain after the Second World War.
