This course will introduce the therapeutic benefits of crochet as a tool for relaxation so learners can slow down, connect with their creativity, and enjoy the process of making.
Learning Goals:
- Demonstrate how to use a crochet hook and yarn to perform at least 2 basic stitches including slip stitch and chain stich
- Apply a simple sewing method to a crochet project
- Create a functional buttonhole
- Create a granny square pouch by the end of the course.
- Reflect on how mindful crochet can promote relaxation, focus and positive wellbeing
About the course: This course supports health and wellbeing by encouraging creativity, focus, and relaxation. Learning new stitches and enjoying the rhythmic flow of crochet can help reduce stress, promote mindfulness, and build confidence, while creating a rewarding sense of achievement.
Who is this course for: This UK Government-funded course is available to Hampshire residents aged 19 and over who are looking to improve their mental, emotional, or physical health and wellbeing through creative expression.
Please note: Eligibility criteria apply and will be checked upon enrolment.
Course purpose: To improve health and wellbeing
Previous knowledge or experience: This course is designed for complete beginners or those wishing to brush up on their basic crocheting skills.
How will I learn: By demonstration and practicing at your own pace.
How will I be assessed: Tutor observation and individual work
What shall I bring: A 4mm crochet hook, light coloured yarn. Additional, optional materials will be available to purchase directly from the tutor
Next steps: Further workshops or courses on crochet or macrame. Drop in sessions at your local library
This course, funded by Hampshire Achieves, is aimed at Hampshire residents aged 19+. Attendance is expected at each session to ensure that you get the most out of your learning experience and to minimise disruption for other learners. Please advise the venue/tutor of any absence you may have.
