This training course allows for learners to set up a syringe driver for end of life care, which include;  knowledge of where to insert a subcutaneous cannula, the documentation needed to be completed once the syringe driver has been set up and the monitoring needed while someone is on a syringe driver.

Understanding Syringe Drivers: This includes defining what a syringe driver is, identifying its uses, and understanding the clinical rationale for commencing and stopping its use in palliative care. It also covers the importance of a clear, individualised care plan that incorporates open, honest communication and continual holistic assessment.

Practical Knowledge and Skills: This involves identifying common sites for infusion, discussing common medications used in syringe drivers, and demonstrating the correct procedure for setting up a syringe driver.

Monitoring and Documentation: Recognising the importance of continual monitoring of the syringe driver and proper documentation is crucial for ensuring patient safety and effective treatment.
