Visitor Boat Licence (private boat)

You can bring a boat registered on another Navigation Authority’s waters onto the Basingstoke Canal as a visiting boat for a maximum of 28 days.

You need to purchase a Visitor Boat Licence, hold appropriate insurance, and comply with the Boat Safety Scheme for the full duration of your stay.

Prior to this payment you must complete the online Visitor Boat Licence application form and email your insurance certificate / boat safety information to us.

You can buy licences for the following durations:

• 1 week (up to 9 days) - Standard £58.00, Low emission £47.00
• 2 weeks (up to 16 days) - Standard £84.00, Low emission £67.50
• 1 month - Standard £128.50, Low emission £103.50

There is a discount of 20% for boats with low emission engines (battery electric, hybrid or hydrogen).

Please remember to book your passage through the locks with the Canal Office, and show your order confirmation to the Waterway Ranger.
